Northern Norway
The cool beauty of the Arctic Ocean, barren fjord landscapes and small fishing villages attract travelers to northern Norway. The area is inhabited by indigenous Sami groups, Kvens of Finnish origin and of course Norwegians.
Inari people have journeyed in the past especially to Varanger fjord, fishing seasonally in the Arctic Sea as well as making trading trips. A special character to the area comes from Kven villages, especially the picturesque village of Bygøynes, where you can still hear the Kven language spoken. The Arctic coast is a day trip away from Hotel Kultahovi and you can choose between three roads and border crossings. If you choose the eastern route alongside Lake Inari northern shore, you can also visit Sevettijärvi village, the home for Skolt Sami culture.
